I've only done one other landscape. Oh wait, I did one for my dad and it really wasn't that good at all (sorry dad!). I guess I should say that I've only done one landscape that I've really liked other than this. This was super fun! I have been learning so much every time I paint, and I'm really starting to love acrylics more than watercolors. This time I added a gloss finish at the end.
I have been focusing on unifying my color schemes to make the painting look more professional. This time I used cobalt blue for the sky, and I had a big blob of orange I wanted to use all over with the greens and clouds.
Above is the first draft. The clouds were WAY too white once all the paint dried, and Russell helped me see what I could do better. I added some cobalt blue mixed with cadmium red and started darkening the clouds.
Then as I was making the clouds more blue, I used some blue to add some shadow and depth in the hills. It was weird adding the blue purple color, but it just started to unify the piece. And then I used some of the colors on the hills in the clouds (light pinks, yellows, etc). Overall, I think it added depth. I would say that this painting is mostly a color study.
Adding the gloss gel at the end to make it shiny |
I'm excited to hang this up! |
