Explorations in Art

Signing up:
Please email: libbydibbart@gmail.com for a Registration Form
You can pay: venmo @libbydibbart, paypal to libbydibbart@gmail.com, cash or check to Libby Dibb.  Your spot is reserved upon receipt of payment.

Class Description:
This is a 90 minute art class to explore drawing and painting.  We will use watercolors, tempura paints, pencils, pens and crayons.  Supplies are included. Please come in clothes ready to paint because we will not be using aprons.  My tempura paints are technically washable, but just keep that in mind.

Skills:
This class is meant to explore art.  We will explore a variety of art skills without making it feel too much like school!  It will be a safe and relaxed atmosphere with positive experimentation.  Let's have fun!  Let's try new things. Look at each other's work and learn.  We will cover value, drawing, adding details, painting techniques, composition, and not worry about perfect art.

Ages:
Ages 7-12.  Kids older than 12 may attend as well, with the understanding that I will have to personally guide them to make the projects more advanced and sophisticated.  I personally believe that the activities we do would even appeal to adults who enjoy being creative.

Class Schedule:
  • Still life or drawing warm up and group critique (5-10 minutes)
  • A mini-lesson on drawing or a painting technique (5-10 minutes)
  • A class guided project with the option to personalize the project or do their own project while I give feedback and instruction. (45-60 minutes)
  • Free art time with materials of the day. (10-20 minutes)
  • Clean up project. (5 minutes)

Teaching Experience:

I graduated from Brigham Young University in English teaching. I taught English for two years, including 7th grade and 9th grade.  I adore Junior high age children and love trying to make them laugh with my dorky jokes.

Also, I have two years of experience running Miss Libby's Preschool in North Carolina, which was three days a week, 9:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.  I set up my own curriculum guided by Joy School philosophy with games and singing time.  I managed 10 preschool children and hired an assistant.

I'm essentially a self-taught artist but at BYU I have taken drawing, watercolors, and oil painting.  I just chose to keep art as a hobby instead of a full-time career.  Currently I do private commissions and sell other works on my etsy shop.

Other Class Information:
I will teach these classes in my art studio at home.  My older two kids will also be part of the class, but my youngest two will have a babysitter.  During class, I still may need to give my youngest two children occasional attention.  Thanks for your flexibility!
