Adult Classes

I think one of the best things that happened this year is that I started teaching art classes to kids and adults.  I was kind of nervous to see how it would go, but it's been super rewarding.  I used to teach English to 7th and 9th graders, which really helps a ton.  I am introducing my adult students the essential fundamentals of drawing, and then helping them learn how to mix colors.  And we could just work on that for years probably!  And value.

Any activity that we do still benefits me.  I think if you are a true learned, you won't get sick of doing the basics because they basics always teach you how to do higher level art.  All good artists truly have an incredible foundation.

This one is mine. I had to make sure that it's a worthwhile project and that I can outpaint the students.  It's a pride thing.  Actually, it just makes me try to paint my best to see if I really am a good enough teacher for these students.

Kid's Art Class Results

Overall, I feel like the kids' art class was a smashing success.  It was a 90 minute class and I quickly realized that these cute kids needed a recess or two as we did different projects.  We fit in about 3 projects per class.  By the end, we took steps developing some greater skills and practicing perspective.

One think that I think is really important is letting the kids do the artwork on their own, even if it's wrong and doesn't look "cute."  This is an exploration class.  Just guide them as you can, push them, but then let kids be themselves.  And then those younger kids sometimes make up their own methods, but are having the time of their lives.
